WHAT IS A FULLY QUALIFED INSTRUCTOR

All driving instructors are required to pass three qualifiying exams before the being able to call themselves ADI (Approved Driving Instuctors). The first exam is a test similar to the theory test, that pupils have to take this also includes the hazzard perception test, the second is an advanced driving test and the third being a test of their instructor ability. Only after passing all three of these tests is an instructor fully qualifed, You can recognise them from the green badge they must display in the window of their car.

All instuctors are given a grade 1 to 6, 1 being the worst and 6 being the best, lee is a grade 5 , they are also all retested every 2 to 5 years to ensure that they are graded correctly and still teaching to the correct standard and sylabuss.

You will also see some instuctors with a pink badge in the windscreen of their car. This means they are a partially qualified instuctor who have passed the first two parts of there qualification but have yet to pass the instructional ability test. The pink badge is a trainee licence which is granted for 6 months to enable them to gain experience in the teaching enviroment, it also allows them to charged for their instruction often at the same rate as a fully qualified instructor.
